Inherited Risk for Alzheimer's Disease ('AD Gene-Gene Panel')

Inherited Risk for Alzheimer's Disease

Your level of risk is reported, along with the detailed genetic results. The test does not detect mutations in APP, PSEN1 or PSEN2 genes. It was developed to assess predisposition in white persons of European ancestry.

This is not a diagnostic test and does not indicate the presence or absence of Alzheimer's Disease. A risk score is not an absolute indicator that a person will or will not develop AD.

Genes in cholesterol metabolism and inflammation, including APOE, indicate your level of risk either very low, low, moderate or high

Our AD Gene-Gene Panel evaluates nine genes involved in cholesterol metabolism and inflammation (Table 1). They are listed from top to bottom in order of importance (most to least important). We evaluate exact locations within these genes where DNA building blocks are known to differ from person. The possible outcomes are listed for each location. The right-hand column labeled with an asterisk indicates the pair of building blocks at each location inherited from 'your' parents.

While there is evidence that the building blocks found at each location influence risk, none of the locations except APOE is an established risk factor for Alzheimer's disease defining an approximate 15-fold range of risk. The gene-gene panel approach defines a much wider range of predisposition compared to APOE4 testing. Results at all these locations combine to indicate very low, low, moderate or high predisposition for AD.
